Meet Capt. Aaron Williams
As many kids do, I hated rules when I was growing up. As I’ve grown older, I’ve realized rules are in place for a reason—especially out on the river. Let’s face it, we work in an incredibly dangerous industry—where life, death, or injury are often determined by who follows the rules.
Of course, no one likes being told what to do, but we keep more of our fellow crewmates alive, safe, and healthy when we follow rules and regulations. And by embracing the regulatory climate as it is, we’re able to create a safer working environment for everyone.
As an experienced riverboat captain with over 22 years of experience working in the inland maritime industry, I’ve seen firsthand what happens when rules are followed … and the consequences when they’re broken. I’ve also seen the labor churn that leads to a lack of crew knowledge when it comes to compliance requirements.
Because of this, I created Bollard as a way to serve as an advocate and trusted partner.
By using audits and surveys as tools for encouraging and educating rather than inflicting pain and stress, we are working to make our entire industry safer.
I start each consult by listening first and asking a lot of questions to understand your individual compliance issue needs. Once you choose to partner with Bollard, I get to know your business inside and out, meticulously learning everything about your TSMS. The end result is not only exceeding compliance standards, but also helping your organization assess the level of management system buy-in and engagement. And you gain the peace of mind that comes with having a partner to help carry the load.

What others are saying...
Captain Williams has spent an enormous amount of time working with vessel crews, auditors, shore-side teams, and engineers over the years. When he worked for Inland Marine Service, he was actively involved in vessel audits, preparations for audits, follow-up recommendations, and other requirements to stay compliant with vessel Sub Chapter M requirements. He was always extremely helpful in assisting our shoreside teams in identifying any updates needed within our TSMS and offering ideas on ways to mitigate risk. Capt. Williams has not only been an excellent vessel leader; he has become a very good friend.

Aaron and I worked together on a number of occasions. I found him to be a competent river pilot and good human being. He is intelligent, intellectually curious, conscientious, and hard-working. Being a vessel auditor for USCG Subchapter M inspections is a good fit for his work experience and personality.
